Carlos Bunga’s new exhibition has finally arrived at the Palacio de Cristal, located in Madrid’s Retiro Park, where the artist brings his cardboard house to the capital.
The Retiro is the largest park in Madrid, with a space of 118 hectares in the heart of Madrid, which houses the oldest tree in Madrid (since 1630) and very important buildings such as the Palacio de Cristal, which was built in 1887 and is home to several temporary exhibitions in the capital.
In this building you can enjoy the latest exhibition of the Portuguese artist, available from 8 April until 4 September. The exhibition, called “Against the Extravagance of Desire”, has been organized by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid.
Our SIT Spain art team participated in the exhibition by mounting the works, directly assisting Carlos Bunga in what is his biggest intervention so far in the Spanish capital.
The Portuguese artist’s works have been exhibited in several important international museums such as the Museu de Serralves in Oporto (2012), the Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC-UNAM in Mexico City (2013), the Whitechapel Gallery in London (2020) and the Secession in Vienna (2021), among others.
This exhibition is a continuation of several projects in which he has incorporated new research, with large-scale installations, something typical of his works of art.
Don’t miss this exhibition, where the majesty of the Palace’s architecture and the surrounding nature and materials interact with the elements of the work, such as cardboard.
Enter the Palace and let yourself be amazed by its large cardboard installations, dyed white, which reach the dome of the building, making you enter a journey that makes you forget the material that forms it.
